Brief Description

The 10th Annual Surftech Jay Moriarity Memorial Paddleboard Race presented by Maui Jim is an annual ocean paddleboard race in the beautiful waters of the Monterey Bay. This event is in memory of Santa Cruz Waterman Jay Moriarity. Paddle the 12 mile or 2 mile course. Get a team together for the fun (but competitive) 3-person Covewater SUP Relay. Free races for kids 12 and under.

Why should you do the Jay Race?

This is the 10th anniversary of the Jay Race! It keeps getting better every year! We gather to remember Jay Moriarity and paddle our hearts out in his honor! All proceeds will go to Santa Cruz County Junior Lifeguard Programs to purchase paddleboards and to provide scholarships in Jay’s name. Participants get a goodie bag, t-shirt, fresh Peet’s coffee, Waterman’s sunscreen, Clif Bars and other snacks. COVEWATER SUP RELAY (New this year!)
New to the Jay Race this year is the Covewater SUP Relay! Three person teams must include at least one female team member. The Covewater SUP Relay is all about having fun with friends, family members, co-workers etc! Teams of three traverse an approximately .25 mile loop around a set of strategically placed buoys and run through the chute between laps. At the start of the race, one team member will hit the water for the first lap. Meanwhile the third team member (the Anchor) will wait at the finish for them to return and carry the board to the start so it’s ready for team member number two. The third team member is the “Anchor” and will wear the timing chip on his/her leg. Guaranteed to be a memorable addition to this year’s event!

Covewater SUP Relay divisions:

Corporate: (company teams, co-workers, lifeguards, police, fire departments, government agencies…)

Family: (wives, husbands, kids, brothers, sisters, cousins…)

Open: (friends, bros, peeps, homies, girlfriends, boyfriends…)
